PNR Status

Now although pNR number was originally related to air tickets PNR numbers are useful for railroad bookings as well as booking of hotel rooms, car rentals and much more.
After the computerization of the Indian Railways Ticketing System, a unique identity for each ticket was created called PNR acronym for Passenger Name Record. The PNR is a 10 digit number allocated to each and every railway ticket booked through any booking style anywhere in the Indian Railways Central Reservation System.
Railway Tickets may be reserved by two manners; in the reservation counters of on the internet and the Railway Booking Offices. In either situation the ticket issued will have a PNR number -left side of the ticket. PNR number can also be conspicuously displayed on an eticket. When the ticket is wait-listed or is reserved against cancellation (RAC), PNR needs to be quoted to discover the existing status of the ticket that may change as you'll find cancellations etc.
PNR is an auto-generated CRS of the Indian Railways or number from the Central Reservation System during the time of development of the ticket. Since PNR is related to the issued ticket, the passenger must fill the form or booking slip to ensure that valid and proper ticket can be issued. This information includes name of passenger/passengers, sex, age, train number or name, origin and destination of journey, date of journey, class through which the passenger wants to travel and contact address and telephone. For on-line booking this information has to be filled on an online form.
Online ticket booking and cancellation functionings of the Indian Railways are looked after by the subsidiary of Indian Railways viz. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation or IRCTC. The web site that a passenger can book his ticket online is http://www.irctc.co.in. The passenger who books the ticket has to have an account on the IRCTC website which may be opened free of charge. When the booking is complete and the i- ticket or e ticket is issued, the passenger can see the PNR number on the ticket.
At date or a later time, the ticket which has been reserved after she or he logs to view or print it can be accessed by the passenger. Only the person that comes with an account on the IRCTC website can book his own ticket or book someone else ’s ticket from his account or view he has any ticket which has been reserved by him or print a copy of it. After reserving a ticket online, a text message is sent to the cellular telephone number that's been mentioned on the booking form online, which gives all the important points of the reserved ticket like PNR, Train No. Date of Journey, Type, Origin and Destination of Journey, name of the Passenger, Coach and Seat/ Berth no., Fare plus any other charges. This mobile number will not need to be the documented mobile variety of the person holding the IRCTC account.
The PNR amount remains unchanged for the ticket that is certainly issued and certainly will stay the same even if the status of reservation changes. The PNR will change if the itinerary is changed or if some passengers on the ticket cancel their journey.
